Puad: “Establishment of Perak, Pahang govts the best ‘clue’ to who UMNO is supporting”

UMNO Supreme Council member Datuk Dr Puad Zarkashi has heavily hinted that Barisan Nasional (BN) will be throwing its support behind Pakatan Harapan (PH) to form a unity government.

In a Facebook post this morning, he said PH and BN agreeing to form state governments in Perak and Pahang is the best “clue” as to whom BN is supporting to form the federal government.

“It is certainly not PN (Perikatan Nasional). UMNO will provide an explanation. MCA and MIC must accept the reality,” he said.

Puad was referring to how the two BN component parties had voiced their protests over working with PH to form a federal government, with some party members going to the extent of demanding that Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi step down as BN chairman.

According to Puad, BN will be part of a unity government, as advised by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong during his audience with PH chief Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and BN leader Zahid.

During the special UMNO Supreme Council meeting at Menara Dato Onn at the World Trade Centre Kuala Lumpur last night, it was decided that UMNO will not support PN in the formation of the new government.

The country has been in a state of political stalemate for the past five days following the 15th General Election on Nov 19, which saw no one coalition securing a simple majority of 112 seats to form the federal government.

PH had managed to capture 82 seats while PN won 73 seats. Meanwhile, BN won only 30 parliamentary seats in what is seen as its worst ever performance in over six decades. – Nov 24, 2022
