Puad: No BN-PN alliance, Bersatu cannot be trusted

UMNO Supreme Council member Datuk Dr Puad Zarkashi is firm that UMNO does not trust Bersatu regardless of whoever is at the top of the ladder.

According to the Rengit assemblyman, any form of collaboration between Barisan Nasional (BN) and Perikatan Nasional (PN) is out of the equation for his party.

“BN-PN cooperation for the purpose of forming a new government is no longer relevant. It’s not something to be considered now, just a waste of time,” FMT reported him as saying.

In addition, UMNO Supreme Council member Datuk Mohd Razlan Rafii remarked that it was not just Bersatu president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin that prevented the two parties from cooperating, but also Bersatu secretary-general Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin that impedes PN to form a new alliance with BN to reclaim Putrajaya.

According to Razlan, he claimed they all had a part to play in trying to “buy over” the support of BN MPs.

Adding that the country did not need another change in administration before the next general election, Puad further noted that Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s unity government should be given a chance to serve a full term.

Furthermore, Puad is of the view that Bersatu and PAS should play the role of a formidable opposition.

“Don’t stand in the way of the unity government’s efforts in investigating, improving and reforming the country’s institutions,” he said.

Moreover, FMT quoted a party insider yesterday (Dec 6) as saying, a change in Bersatu’s leadership may well be the catalyst for PN to retake Putrajaya through a fresh alliance with BN.

Bersatu leader who requested anonymity told FMT that PN missed the opportunity to form a government following last month’s general election because Muhyiddin was adamant about becoming prime minister.

Many Bersatu members are of the opinion UMNO would be more open to working with them if it was led by a more pragmatic leader like Hamzah, compared to Muhyiddin who just wanted to “finish off” UMNO, said the leader. – Dec 7, 2022
