“TO boldly go where no one has gone before!” – the catch phrase associated with Star Trek: Enterprise series – best describes the first destination social media influencer, model and cosmetic entrepreneur Siew Pui Yi landed in 2022.
Affably known as MsPuiyi, the 23-year-old Penang lass kicked off 2022 with a bang by becoming the first Southeast Asian to be featured on the front cover of adult magazine Penthouse.
Appearing nude on the January edition of Penthouse is certainly not a dream come true for Malaysians of the female species, hence nobody has the right to steal such glamour away from the once star pupil of SMK Dato Onn in Butterworth.
Leaving school after she completed her SPM – in which she passed with flying colours (scoring 9As) – Pui Yi boasts of having a large following, including 17 million followers on her Instagram.
“She was from a poor family, and I used to send her home on my way back home after school. She would ask to be dropped off by the main road in Bagan Ajam and she would walk to her apartment,” her former teacher told The Vibes.
“Pui Yi was never hoity or boastful, but very humble and nice.”
Stripping off morality, what Pui Yi did was not only gutsy but a reflection of entrepreneurship of the highest degree.
She did not let hardship take control of her life with ease but fought back an eye for an eye. She was previously extorted for RM50,000 after her laptop was hacked when she sent it for repair in 2019.
It was a low point in her life when her nude pictures were uploaded on paid sites. “It was then that I decided to take control. I began to appear in more sexy poses instead,” she was quoted as saying in one video interview.
With regards to her Penthouse appearance, nobody can be envious of Pui Yi as she summed up on her Instagram, “It’s my honour to be the first Southeast Asian on Penthouse January 2022 cover issues”.
“I can’t describe how happy I am to be the pet of the month,” she said, expressing her gratitude to a “pet manager” of the magazine for everything. “I’m so grateful. It feels as if I’m dreaming,”
In her latest Facebook posting, she added:
“2021 was a good year. I have grown and learnt to be a better person and a woman. This year meant so much to me as compared to the previous years. My career has spiked and achieved milestones.
“I broke a few records for my name. Throughout the year, I have supporters who believed in me and stayed with me. I worked really hard to prove myself. I met talented people who joined forces and be part of my team.
“We learnt from one another in skills and visions. I’m thankful because they made those impossible became possible. I wouldn’t have accelerated my progress without them.” – Jan 4, 2022
