MALAYSIAN social media darling Siew Pui Yi announced last night (Feb 14) on Instagram that she has launched a US$1 mil (RM4,384,000) scholarship fund for the underprivileged community to apply to.
“This has always been something that I wished to hopefully make a difference someday, to give equal opportunities to deserving students that can’t afford the education they need to succeed,” revealed the newly-minted DJ who goes by the moniker Ms Puiyi.
“And now, I am pleased to announce that I will be launching my very own scholarship to help students achieve their dreams.”
Underprivileged students from all over the world are welcome to apply for the scholarship fund.
Those who qualify will receive a US$1,000 (RM4,383) scholarship to pursue their desired field of study as well as financial hardship grants while studying and business startup grants after graduation.
The objective of this scholarship programme is to help those who are now in her “past-shoes” to achieve their dreams.
“As a girl who came from an underprivileged background, I always wished that I could have extra financial help so that I could have furthered my studies. It’s something that I think about all the time up until this day, maybe my life would be different?”
According to Pui Yi, not everyone is given equal opportunities and there are so many people she knows that could have gone so far if they had the financial help when they were younger.
Pui Yi further shared that she had wished to study medicine and become a surgeon but was unable to do so due to a lack of funds.
Furthermore, she noted that due to financial hardships and lack of support, many individuals in underprivileged communities frequently have to abandon their dreams. – Feb 15, 2023
