ACCORDING to the Director-General of the Malaysian Fire and Rescue Department, Datuk Nor Hisyam Mohammad, the final safety assessment of the fire crater area at Putra Heights, Subang Jaya is set to conclude tomorrow and will be presented to the Selangor State Disaster Management Committee soon.
A gas pipeline explosion and fire in Putra Heights, Subang Jaya, caused significant damage and prompted ongoing safety assessments.
The incident, which occurred at 8:10 am last Tuesday, involved flames over 30 meters high and temperatures up to 1,000 degrees Celsius, taking nearly eight hours to extinguish.
“This final assessment only covers the fire crater area and does not include the affected infrastructure area,” he said, adding that water pumping operations are underway due to overflow from the recent rain.
Selangor Police Chief Datuk Hussein Omar Khan stated that a preliminary technical investigation report on the cause is expected within two weeks, highlighting the explosion’s impact.
“The original structure or landscape of the area has changed, rendering the affected area unstable,” Bernama further reported.
The disaster left 87 houses severely damaged and uninhabitable, while 148 others sustained repairable damage. —Apr 5, 2025
