AS one of Malaysia’s largest private higher education providers, SEGi University & Colleges has stayed committed to transforming its education landscape.

Riding on the belief that a holistic learning environment is the best approach to shaping leaders of tomorrow, SEGi has increased its efforts to take higher education beyond the conventional way of learning and set a stage in various learning settings for students to showcase knowledge gained during their studies.
This was the inspiration behind SEGi’s Postgraduate Education Symposium (PGES), which was recently held at its flagship university campus. PGES 2022 was organised by the Faculty of Education, Language, Psychology & Music (FoELPM).
“The pursuit of higher education is not just limited for post-high school students, but also for adult learners seeking specialist qualifications to add credibility to their career progression,” said SEGi University Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Azrin Esmady Ariffin in his welcoming speech.
According to Dr Azrin, postgraduate study is a period in one’s learning journey to explore, reflect, create, and consolidate thoughts.
“‘Contemporary Research for Sustainable Practices’ is the perfect theme for this Symposium. Research represents a huge bulk of a postgraduate programme, which is why academic symposiums like PGES are crucial for students are crucial for knowledge sharing and creation,” he elaborated.
“Above all, it also promotes sustainable educational practices among the students and academics in attendance.”
Carried out in a hybrid format, the two-day Symposium included more than 50 paper presentations by postgraduate students from home and abroad as well as eight workshops on contemporary research methods and discipline areas that are gaining prominence in today’s education cycle.
In addition to giving attending postgraduates the floor to present their research papers, the Postgraduate Education Symposium saw relaunching of the Asia Pacific Journal of Business, Humanities & Education (APJBHE).
APJBHE is an exclusive publication by SEGi University to provide students and academics with a trusted platform to present and share their conceptual and empirical research findings to be widely recognised and referred to within the circles of the education network.
Available in print twice annually in May and November since 2017, APJBHE is now published online by FoEPLM. The journal series is peer-reviewed and is in the process of acquiring various indexing.
“I am proud of the many postgraduates who bravely took the first step by participating in PGES 2022, and now I challenge these students to take their academic pursuits to the next level by submitting their research findings for publication in APJBHE,” SEGi University Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic Affairs) & Head of Innovation and New Revenues Prof Dr Srikumar Chakravarthi,
Dr Srikumar also shared that academic publication allows students to build their network of like-minded peers, academics, and field experts.
“The intellectual stimulation from the expanded network and academic writing will take your knowledge to greater heights and subsequently strengthens your position as an expert in your chosen field of study,” he added.
