NOT sure if Malaysians can stomach this – or rather not sure if Malaysians should laugh or cry over this piece of revelation.
With due respect to the Malaysian Navy, Air Forces and now its Army, perhaps our motherland is somehow ‘jinxed’ when it comes to operating military transportation.
After certain quarters having deemed as too costly for the Royal Malaysian Navy (RMN) to run a submarine fleet (referring to the two Scorpène-class submarines acquired in 2022), Malaysia’s defence authorities have been struggling big time to ensure delivery of their helicopters and needless to mention, six littoral combatant ship (LCS) even after having forked out an exorbitant sum of money to acquire them.
Anyway, fingers crossed that there is no compromise on Malaysia’s security after a tank destined for the Merdeka Day rehearsal broke down along Jalan Damansara – at the slip road near Carcosa Seri Negara to Kuala Lumpur Sentral.
The Star which broke the story cited the Kuala Lumpur City Hall’s (DBKL) Control and Command Centre’s Tweet as saying that the tank had broken down at the second left lane of the slip road, hence blocking the middle lane.
“A DBKL spokesman said the tank was used for the Merdeka parade rehearsal on Friday (Aug 26) morning,” reported the mainstream news portal.
“DBKL officers had gone on site to assess the situation. A few rangers were reported to have arrived at the scene at around 10.50am.”
While the Malaysian Armed Forces (ATM) had also been informed of the situation, it was learnt that the tank had also been moved and the road was clear.
“Twitter users have also reported a traffic crawl from Jalan Duta towards KL Sentral,” The Star further noted.
Hopefully, Malaysia’s military credibility has not “tanked” even further. – Aug 26, 2022
