FOLLOWING the drubbing received at the Johor state election, UMNO supreme council member Datuk Puad Zarkashi called upon Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin to resign from his post in the Perikatan Nasional coalition.
“In fact, Cabinet ministers from Bersatu should also quit their Government posts,” he said in a Facebook post.
In the recently held Johor polls, Barisan Nasional won 40 out of the 56 seats contested, giving it a two-thirds majority at the state assembly.
Pakatan Harapan, BN’s traditional rival, managed to win 12 seats. However, Perikatan only won three seats.
Following the massive losses, Muhyiddin announced that he is willing to quit as Perikatan’s head honcho if that is what the coalition’s leadership wants.
However, Bersatu deputy president Datuk Seri Ahmad Faizal Azumu said he would continue to support the Pagoh MP’s leadership, adding it was pertinent for the coalition’s leadership to close ranks.
Yesterday, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said that ties among Cabinet members remained strong despite the Johor electoral results.
Muhyiddin went too far
Ismail Sabri who is also the Bera MP also dismissed calls by certain quarters to dissolve the Parliament, reiterating that he would not do so just because “a small minority” is calling for it.
On that note, Puad, who won the Rengit state seat in the Johor polls, reminded the people on how Muhyiddin went overboard in criticising UMNO during the campaigning period.
If the former prime minister has dignity, he added, then the former should not remain in the UMNO-led Government.
“Press the ‘button’ if you have any honour left. Johoreans no longer believe that you care for them,” Puad remarked. – March 14, 2022.
