ECONOMY Minister Rafizi Ramli said Malaysians who failed to register with the Central Database Hub (PADU) before the deadline on March 31 will still be able to receive aid if they are eligible.
He said the government will use existing administrative data, which is enough to determine the eligibility of an individual who missed the PADU registration deadline to update their profiles for subsidy retargeting purposes, reported The Star.
“If there is a need, the ministry will reopen PADU registration and updating temporarily,” he was quoted as saying by the English daily on Monday (April 1), adding that this would be after the government makes a decision on the targeted subsidy mechanism.
According to Rafizi, the ministry would table the plan for retargeted subsidies to the Cabinet this month.
It was reported on Sunday (March 31) that some 10.6 million people have updated their personal information on PADU on its last day of registration.
Rafizi said that the government had open registration for the Padu database since Feb 2 for all to update their socio-economic data status.
He noted that the information needs to be verified and updated to ensure that the government will be fair to the people as it will e used for targeted subsidies to those eligible groups in the future. – April 1, 2024
