TAN Sri Razarudin Husain has been appointed the new inspector-general of police (IGP) on a two-year contract effective on Friday (June 23) while Bukit Aman CID director Datuk Seri Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay will be promoted to deputy IGP.
Razaruddin’s appointment comes following current IGP Tan Sri Acryl Sani Abdullah Sani’s announcement that he will leave the police force in July to take up another job.
Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said the Yang di-Pertuan Agong has consented to the appointment of the 61-year-old senior officer.
The consent is in accordance with Clause 4 and 5 of Article 140 of the Federal Constitution following advice from the Prime Minister based on the recommendation of the Police Force Commission.
Razarudin’s service was extended in March after his compulsory retirement. His services were apparently extended on a two-year contract which will end in March 2025.
Previously, the Dengkil-born Razarudin headed the federal police Narcotics Crime Investigation Department in September 2020 before being promoted to deputy IGP at the end of 2021.
He has 41 years of experience in the force, holding various positions, since he joined the police force at the age of 19.
He served as the Perak state police chief and was appointed the Assistant Commander of the Special Task Force on Organised Crime (STAFOC), following the infamous Lahad Datu intrusion in Sabah back in 2013.
Ayob Khan, meanwhile, was previously appointed the Federal Criminal Investigations Department director on April 16.
Before he was appointed to the Federal Criminal Investigations Department, he held a post as the Bukit Aman’s Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department (NCID) director in January 2022.
Before that, the 57-year-old had also assumed the position of Johor police chief in March 2020.
Ayob Khan, who is known for his no-nonsense approach to fighting crime, was the Special Branch Counter-Terrorism (E8) principal assistant director for many years.
During his tenure at E8, he had many successes in crippling the domestic terrorism activities of Islamic State militants and other militant groups threatening the country. – June 21, 2023
