THE Government must double down on efforts to capture fugitive businessman Low Taek Jho who is better known as Jho Low, said DAP chairman Lim Guan Eng.
This comes following the Federal Court’s affirmation of former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak’s conviction and sentence in the SRC International – a former 1MDB subsidiary – case yesterday (Aug 23).
“DAP urges the government to redouble (their) efforts to nab Jho Low, his family and associates connected with the RM52 billion 1MDB scandal to bring justice to 32 mil Malaysians robbed by the biggest heist in history,” Lim said.
According to the Bagan MP, it is “manifestly unfair and a travesty of justice” that Low, his family and associates connected with the scandal are allowed to roam free while Najib has had his day in court.
The Federal Court’s unanimous decision to uphold Najib’s sentence and conviction for abuse of power, criminal breach of trust, and money laundering has been lauded as a phenomenal victory for all Malaysians as well as a monumental expression of justice for the country.
In addition to his 12-year jail term, Najib will also have to pay a hefty RM210 mil fine.
On the matter of Jho Low, Lim also urged the Government to prepare a progress report on the status of capturing “the most wanted criminal in Malaysia”.
“No expense or effort should be spared to bring to book Jho Low, his family and associates for robbing Malaysians of tens of billions of ringgit in the 1MDB scandal,” said the former finance minister.
Low, described as the mastermind behind the 1MDB scandal, has eluded capture since 2018, and Interpol has issued red notices for his arrest. The Government has said his whereabouts are not known. – Aug 24, 2022
