Reduced new infections on the eve of the nationwide total lockdown

HAVING only several hours left before the nationwide total lockdown takes effect, the number of new COVID-19 cases has gone down within the last 24 hours, standing at 6,824 today.

While it is still worrying that Selangor (2,111) is still on top of the list among the states that have the biggest number of infections, the more grim update of the day is that it has been discovered that 82,341 children tested positive for COVID-19.

Out of the total, 19,851 cases involved children below four years old; 8,237 cases among five to six years of age; 26,851 among those aged seven to 12 and 27,402 among teens aged 13 to 17. They were found to be COVID-19 patients in categories 1, 2 and 3.

Not only that, there were 67 deaths recorded today, with a 15-year-old leukaemia patient in Kelantan being one of those.

Meanwhile, there were 5,251 recoveries today (total 490,038).

However, an increased number of 851 COVID-19 patients were admitted into intensive care units, with almost half of them (422) in need of ventilator support. – May 31, 2021
