Redzuan denies organising ‘special’ presser amid defection buzz

The office of Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Special Functions) Mohd Redzuan Md Yusof has denied that there will be a “special press conference” as previously reported.

Redzuan was still “under quarantine”, said the statement dated May 29.

Earlier a message was sent to the media that there would be a press conference by Redzuan as well as Deputy Works Minister Datuk Shahruddin Md Salleh at 5pm. They are Alor Gajah MP and Sri Gading MP respectively and both are from Bersatu.

This fuelled speculation that there would be a defection within Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin’s camp and therefore lead to the possibility of a hung Parliament.

These moves come amid the sacking of former prime minister and Langkawi MP Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, former Kedah menteri besar and Jerlun MP Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir, Muar MP Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman, Simpang Renggam MP Dr Mazlee Malik and Kubang Pasu MP Datuk Amiruddin Hamzah from the party on the ground that they sat with the opposition during the Parliament session on May 18. – May 29, 2020
