Rejecting the motion to discuss Zahid’s corruption case in Parliament is “unnatural”

THE rejection of the motion to discuss the corruption case involving Deputy Prime Minister (DPM) Datuk Seri Zahid Hamidi which was brought to the Dewan Rakyat before speaker Tan Sri Johari Abdul has been described by PAS secretary-general Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan as “an unnatural matter” (perkara luar tabii).

According to the Perikatan Nasional (PN) chief whip, today’s (Sept 11) special parliamentary session which does not have a question and answer (Q&A) session “is the best time to proceed with the motion to debate the matter raised by Machang MP Wan Ahmad Fayhsal Wan Ahmad Kamal” as this was before commencement of the 12th Malaysia Plan (12MP) mid-term review debate.

“Unfortunately, not only was our motion not approved by the Honourable Tan Sri Speaker but what surprised us was that the Prime Minister (PM) himself made a statement outside the House that the motion could not be brought to Parliament,” HarakahDaily cited Takiyuddin as telling a selected media conference at the Parliament lobby today.

According to Takiyuddin who is also the Kota Bahru MP, such unexpected action by PM Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim clearly precedes the power of the Dewan Rakyat speaker.

Interestingly, Johari not only rejected the motion brought by Wan Ahmad Fayhsal but promised to allow him to submit the motion after the 12MP half-term study debate.

“This is unusual because it has never happened before that a motion has been rejected yet the person who presented the motion is allowed to present the motion (after 12MP half-term study debate).” asserted Takiyuddin who was the former energy and natural resources minister during the administration of Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob.

Also present were Wan Ahmad Fayhsal; Arau MP Datuk Seri Shahidan Kassim; and Masjid Tanah MP Mas Ermieyati Samsudin.

In that regard, Takiyuddin hopes that today’s action by the Parliament will open the eyes of Malaysians “to see for themselves the various strange things happening during the current Federal government rule”.

Meanwhile, Wan Ahmad Fayhsal described Anwar’s statement that the issue pertaining to Zahid’s discharge not amounting to an acquittal (DNAA) for 47 graft charges in the Yayasan Akalbudi case could not be debated during today’s special Parliament meeting as a form of “executive intervention”.

“The people and the international community want to know if there’s a difference of class (darjat) between an ordinary person who was imprisoned for 10 years for minor theft during the MCO (movement control order) emergency and the DPM who is seen as shielded by the Parliament,” added the Machang MP. – Sept 11, 2023
