IT looks like with PKR vice president Rafizi Ramli returning to active politics and gunning for the party’s deputy presidency, a battle royal seems to kicking off within the fold.
According to Malaysiakini, former Perak PKR chief Farhash Wafa Salvador fired a salvo on Rafizi, accusing him of attacking party president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
He then “urged” the former Pandan MP to contest the party presidency straight, if the latter thinks very highly of himself.
“Does Rafizi believe he is qualified to challenge Anwar as president? If so, we are in a democracy.
“Let the PKR members see for themselves the face of those who are hungry for power and intends to put down the party leadership,” he was reported as saying.
Two days ago, Rafizi announced that he would return to active politics following PKR’s disastrous performance in four state by-elections; Sabah, Melaka, Sarawak and Johor.
He said that Pakatan Harapan leadership appear clueless on how to move on following the Sheraton Move in 2020 which ousted them from Putrajaya.
“The sole approach that had been repeated again and again is the ‘big tent’ formula to unite all Opposition parties in the fight against UMNO/BN.
“Lately, I was also told that the PH Presidential Council has agreed to hold talks with PN regarding possibilities of working together in the upcoming 15th General Election (GE15),” Rafizi quipped.
It is to note that in an interview with BFM yesterday, Rafizi mentioned that he has no intention of contesting for the party presidency as he did not want to rock the boat and divert attention from the issues at hand.
Watch your words
Farhash used to serve as Anwar’s aide and is said to be the former deputy prime minister’s close confidante. Reports suggest that he is also keen to contest for the PKRs’ deputy presidency spot.
Touching on Rafizi, Farhash said that the former’s statements indicated that he would not be able to participate in collective decision-making efforts.
As party man, he added, Rafizi should be careful with his words so as to avoid hurting the feelings of PKR members and leaders.
“He must remember that PKR is a very dynamic party because it represents the voices of all levels of society and therefore, party decisions are made through consensus,” he added.
Nominations for the PKR leadership election will take place next month and the party election will take place in May. – March 17, 2022.
