HUNDREDS of grassroot members from Bersatu are reportedly joining PKR for various reasons, including the inability to advance their political careers should they stay in Bersatu, according to a PKR man.
In an FMT report, a source, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the Bersatu members also wanted to assist certain PKR allies boost their campaigns in the PKR polls which is expected to be held by year end or in early 2025.
According to the source, a number of grassroots members from the Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin-led Bersatu had recently joined, or were in the process of joining, PKR.
“For the most part, Bersatu members left UMNO to advance their political careers,” the source told the news portal.
“But now, they feel they have limited room for growth, unless they are allied with a certain Bersatu leader.”
The source noted that those leaving the Malay-based party included division leaders, and the number was expected to see a hike “towards the end of Ramadan”.
It was reported on Monday (March 11) that two former Bersatu leaders – former supreme council member Dr Muhammad Faiz Na’aman and former Dengkil assemblyman Adhif Syan Abdullah – had been accepted as PKR members.
In a Facebook post, Faiz, who quit Bersatu in August last year, said he is “resolute in bolstering PKR’s original struggle, advancing the people-centric objectives of the Selangor state government under the leadership of Datuk Seri Amirudin (Shari) and championing the national agenda of Malaysia Madani under Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim”.
The source, speaking to FMT, further revealed that some who were eyeing posts in the PKR polls had already begun amassing support from grassroots members in PKR as well as Bersatu.
“The Bersatu members will either join PKR directly or start by joining PKR-friendly non-governmental organisations (NGOs) and then make their moves from there,” he added. – March 12, 2024
