Report: Hamzah’s former pol-sec charged with receiving RM350k bribe

A FORMER political secretary to opposition leader Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin has been charged at the Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court on Wednesday (May 23) with receiving a RM350,000 bribe.

Sayed Amir Muzzakkir Al Sayed Mohamad, 41, claimed trial to two charges of receiving the cash as an inducement to help a company secure a contract worth over RM381 mil for equipment maintenance for the police.

He was charged with accepting RM100,000 from Nexuscorp Group Sdn Bhd managing director Wan Azhar Yusof as an inducement for the company to secure a tender worth over RM381 mil.

The contract was meant for the maintenance and supply of the infrastructure, server, and software for the police’s radio system, RMPNET.

He was also accused of accepting another RM250,000 from Wan Azhar as an inducement for the same purpose.

The offences allegedly took place at Solaris Dutamas on Dec 4 and Dec 16, 2020, respectively.

The charges were framed under Section 16(a)(A) of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Act 2009, punishable under Section 24(1) by up to 20 years’ imprisonment and a fine of at least five times the value of the bribe or RM10,000, whichever is higher, upon conviction.

Sayed Amir pleaded not guilty after the charges were read to him before judge Azura Alwi.

The court granted Sayed Amir bail of RM60,000 with one surety and ordered him to surrender his passport until the disposal of the case.

He was also ordered to report to the nearest MACC office once a month.

Sayed Amir was represented by lawyer Yunos Shariff while deputy public prosecutor Zander Lim appeared for the prosecution.

The court fixed July 12 for case mention. – May 23, 2024
