Report: “Look who’s talking about honour”, Mazlan pans Muhyiddin!

FORMER Tebrau Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) chief Mazlan Bujang hit back on party president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin for criticising him for leaving the party.

“Look in the mirror, Muhyiddin. Remember the Sheraton Move? He is calling me dishonourable but he is far worse. Don’t be arrogant,” he was reported saying by Utusan Malaysia.

On Thursday, Mazlan announced his exit from Bersatu and would support Barisan Nasional (BN) in the upcoming Johor state election. He is the Puteri Wangsa state assemblyperson.

Following his decision, an irate Muhyiddin poured scorn at Mazlan, calling him dishonourable and accused him of being a sell-out.

“Is he going to join UMNO? Does he think the party is going to field him as a candidate?” the Pagoh MP was reported asking.

In the Sheraton Move, Muhyiddin pulled out Bersatu from the Pakatan Harapan coalition despite protests from then-party chairman Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad and his supporters.

With the support of 10 MPs who defected from PKR, Muhyiddin managed to secure an alliance with UMNO and PAS to form a new coalition called Perikatan Nasional in February 2020, with him becoming as the eighth prime minister.

Subsequently, he booted out all his detractors from Bersatu, including Mahathir. The latter and a fragment of his supporters later formed Parti Pejuang Tanah Air.

However, Muhyiddin’s fortunes did not last long after several UMNO MPs withdrew their support from the former in August last year, triggering his ouster, with UMNO vice president Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob taking over the premiership. – Jan 29, 2022
