Report: Maszlee now team PKR officially, vows to reinvigorate the Opposition

FORMER Education Minister Maszlee Malik has confirmed that he will be joining PKR after nearly a year serving as an Independent MP aligned to Pakatan Harapan.

According to The Star, the Simpang Renggam MP made the decision as he wanted to continue representing members of academia in politics, apart from representing the people who are looking for a political change.

“I felt the call to join PKR after seeing their loss in the recent Melaka state election. I believe the people must be saved from corrupt politicians who continue living off on the people’s wealth, leaving ordinary folks struggling.

“Although PKR is not in a very good light right now, and those who become political ‘frogs’ keep jumping due to the promise of money and power, joining a party in its weakest condition is not being a ‘frog’ but it is the price to pay for a struggle,” he was reported saying.

“The people should play their role in creating a better Malaysia which is corruption-free and has integrity,” Maszlee stated, adding that he was planning to have more than 1,000 new PKR members with 28 branches formed next year in his constituency.

Maszlee was among the six former Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) leaders who refused to join the Perikatan Nasional coalition, leading to their ouster from the party in May last year.

Although he was instrumental in establishing Parti Pejuang Tanah Air, Maszlee decided against joining the party.

On related matters, PKR president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim welcomed Maszlee into the party fold and expressed confidence that the latter would attract younger leaders to the Opposition party.

“He is young and I am confident that he will strengthen our leadership,” the Port Dickson MP told reporters. – Nov 28, 2021.
