Report: NGO lodges report against Securities Commission, claims corruption

IN a bizarre turn of events, a non-governmental organisation (NGO) lodged a report against the Securities Commission (SC) at the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC), claiming corruption and wrongdoings involving the former’s top brass.

According to Utusan Malaysia, the NGO lodged the report at 4.30pm yesterday at MACC’s headquarters in Putrajaya.

They claimed to be in possession of evidence to prove the allegations made, which include the involvement of high-ranking Government leaders.

“The MACC must investigate the matter as many companies have been victimised by these unscrupulous people, including ordinary Malaysians.

“We don’t want SC’s integrity and image to get tarnished due to such cases,” its representative Syahmi Rosli was reported as saying.

Elaborating, he said that there were three cases in question; one involving the kin of a high-ranking SC official getting a top post at a company being investigated by the commission itself, as inducement to cover-up the company’s wrongdoings.

“There is also a case involving conflict of interest, where a SC board member is alleged to be holding shares worth RM28.2 mil in a company which has a working relationship with the commission.

“The third case involves high-ranking SC officials taking bribes to close cases involving insider trading which had implicated several public-listed companies,” Syahmi claimed.

When asked on the evidence, the NGO member said that he would only provide them to the MACC when the probe starts.

“We are just concerned citizens who want to ensure our Government agencies remain professional and doesn’t get embroiled in corrupt practises,” Syahmi concluded. – Jan 10, 2022
