Report: “No need to fear DAP,” caretaker Negri Sembilan MB tells Malays

CARETAKER Negri Sembilan Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun has reassured the Malays that they need not fear DAP because the party has an excellent track record in the state during the Pakatan Harapan (PH) administration.

Aminuddin said the apprehension that has arisen in recent days is simply a narrative played up by the opposition to attract Malay voters especially with the forthcoming state elections.

“Malays should not be afraid of DAP, we are together with them as friends to govern peacefully and prosperously,” the Port Dickson MP was quoted as saying by Utusan Malaysia today (July 4).

“This is proven by the Negri Sembilan government, where we are able to increase the state’s revenue from investment, free of corruption and so on. It is clear and we have proven it.”

According to the incumbent Sikamat assemblyman, the racial issue played up by certain quarters as a narrative is intended as a means of wresting control of the state from PH, which has now partnered with former arch-nemesis Barisan Nasional (BN).

Aminuddin further noted that Perikatan Nasional (PN) goal of acquiring 18 seats in the state is based only on statistics, and the party’s struggle is not solely for Malays, as is widely assumed.

“This is undeniable when the politics of old are filled with racism and fear-mongering with much hatred. So much so that the blame falls on DAP even though DAP is not actually guilty. That is why I am saying, if we look back, there is nothing to be afraid of,” Aminuddin said.

PH won the 2018 Negri Sembilan state election with the party led by Aminuddin controlling 20 seats (DAP-11 seats, PKR-six and Amanah-three) followed by BN with 16 seats (UMNO-15 seats and MIC-one).

Negri Sembilan is among the three states under PH that will hold their state election soon, the other two being Penang and Selangor.

Selangor was the earliest to dissolve their state assembly on June 23, followed by Penang on July 28 and Negri Sembilan on July 1. – July 4, 2023
