PAS LEADERS must clarify leaked documents alleging a plot against top UMNO leaders, said UMNO Supreme Council member Datuk Seri Ahmad Shabery Cheek.
In a posting on his Facebook page, Shabery said that since the documents involved the leadership of a party that made up the current Federal Government, it was crucial that an immediate denial be issued should the allegations be untrue.
The former Kemaman MP was referring to several leaked documents which went viral on social media recently which are believed to be minutes of a PAS meeting which allegedly mentioned a plot to topple and disrupt UMNO and Barisan Nasional (BN).
The documents include a plan to expedite the sentences of UMNO’s “court cluster” namely party president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak who are either on trial or have been convicted on charges of criminal breach of trust, abuse of power and money laundering.
According to Free Malaysia Today, several prominent figures have been linked to the alleged plot including Terengganu Menteri Besar and PAS vice president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar, PAS secretary-general Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan and Bersatu men Datuk Seri Azmin Ali and Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainuddin.
“Will there be a ‘Pasleak’ should there be no denial from Ahmad Samsuri as a crucial figure named in the document?” he asked.
Shabery was making references to the 1972 Watergate Scandal that had led to the resignation of former US president Richard Nixon as well as WikiLeaks as prominent examples of political damage that resulted from leaked documents. – April 20, 2022
