PAS will contest 27 out of 32 Terengganu state legislative assembly seats in the forthcoming state polls on Aug 12 while the remaining five seats will be given to Bersatu, who will contest using the PAS logo, according to news reports.
According to Terengganu PAS deputy commissioner Datuk Dr Alias Razak the list of candidates for the state polls, including those from Bersatu, has been finalised and will be announced tomorrow (July 27).
Dr Alias said the fielded candidates are quality and charismatic individuals who have earned the people’s trust.
“We are confident that the candidates can realise PAS and Perikatan Nasional’s (PN) hopes to conquer all 32 state seats,” he was reported as saying by Berita Harian during a press conference in Kuala Terengganu today (July 26).
Also in attendance were state PAS election director Ariffin Deraman and Terengganu PAS Dewan Ulama chief Ismail Osman.
Responding to news that the Terengganu Election Court had annulled the victory of Kuala Terengganu MP Datuk Ahmad Amzad Hashim who represented PAS in the 15th general election (GE15) Dr Alias said the party will field a candidate to defend the seat during the by-election which will be held simultaneously with the state polls on Aug 12.
“The candidate who will contest for the Kuala Terengganu parliamentary seat will also be announced tomorrow,” confirmed Dr Alias.
He clarified that the seat distribution between PAS and Bersatu came as a result of harmonious discussions among two party leaderships.
He also acknowledged that there were several PAS candidates who had pulled out of the race, and they were replaced with new faces. – July 26, 2023
