FORMER Sarawak governor Tun Abdul Taib Mahmud has allegedly been removed from the Normah Medical Specialist Centre by his wife.
In the police report sighted by The Vibes, Taib’s wife Toh Puan Raghad Kurdi Taib had shown up at the hospital at 11.56pm on Saturday with her butler and bodyguard.
“Despite advice to have the patient remain at the hospital for proper and adequate treatment, I was informed by the staff nurse that she (Raghad) proceeded to voluntarily remove all medication attached to the patient without alerting the ICU staff on duty,” read the report by Dr Mohd Nazrin Jefri who was the attending resident MO at the time.
The news portal reported that Taib was then take by Raghad, her butler and bodyguard on a wheelchair to a black Toyota Alphard parked at the entrance of the hospital lobby.
According to the police report, Dr Mohd Nazrin tried to explain once again to Raghad that her action of taking Taib from the hospital’s care may cause harm to the patient.
The report further stated that the hospital had since received a copy of a letter from lawyers Alvin Chong and Partners to Raghad instructing her to notify them (lawyers) if Taib was to be discharged.
The hospital’s medical director has also issued an order that the patient should remain treated at the hospital and if the patient is discharged against the medical advice or absconded by any relative or wife, they are obligated to sign the discharge against medical advice form, failing which, no medical services will be provided to the patient in future.
A second police report lodged by another family member of Taib’s was reportedly lodged on Sunday (Feb 4) based on the first report.
According to the second police report, none of Taib’s siblings or four children were made aware of his current whereabouts and health condition.
Taib served as Sarawak’s fourth chief minister from 1981 to 2014 before being appointed as Sarawak’s seventh governor in 2014. He was supposed to remain in office until the end of this month.
However, his term as governor was cut short with the appointment of former Dewan Negara president Tun Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar last month. – Feb 5, 2024
