Report: Zuraida to be axed from Bersatu over ties with PBM?

PARTI Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) supreme council member Datuk Zuraida Kamaruddin may be getting the boot from the party soon due to her alleged ties with Parti Bangsa Malaysia (PBM).

According to a report by The Malaysian Insight, while a majority of the supreme council members have supported the move, they have refrained for now due to lack of evidence.

“A council member suggested for Zuraida to be sacked from the party. The proposal received majority support but no decision was made,” the report stated.

Asked on the matter, Bersatu Armada chief Wan Ahmad Fayhsal Wan Ahmad said the party was waiting for the Plantation and Commodities Minister to explain the matter.

“We will decide in the near future. It has been raised but no decision has been made yet. All council members have raised it.

“Zuraida did not say she wanted to leave Bersatu, so we have no evidence that she has done so. We presume that the founders of PBM — the assemblymen and the MPs — are all her allies.

“We are waiting for her official answer, so no decision has been made yet on her position in the party,” he was reported as saying.

In the event Zuraida get sacked, Fayhsal said Bersatu would propose to the Government for her ministerial post to be given to someone in the party.

“That is the party’s policy. When we formed the Government, Zuraida was given a position on the basis that she is a member of Bersatu, not because she is Zuraida.

“If she is no longer here, Bersatu can reclaim the seat,” he was reported as saying.

On Jan 8, PBM announced that Julau MP Larry Sng would helm the party as its president. Lembah Jaya state assemblyperson Haniza Talha serves as its deputy president.

Both UMNO and Bersatu are at each other’s throats now despite being part of the Government, and it was not helping when PBM is seen close to Barisan Nasional. – Feb 2, 2022
