Reports: Umno’s Hishammuddin to become DPM soon?

FOREIGN Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein may get appointed as the new Deputy Prime Minister, according to online portal, The Malaysian Insight.

The news agency quoted anonymous sources in its report, saying the appointment could take place as early as this week.

“Hishammuddin will be Deputy Prime Minister as soon as possible,” the report said.

It was also said that allies in the Perikatan Nasional coalition have yet to be informed of the matter.

Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin is under immense pressure from Umno to dissolve the Parliament, as the latter are unhappy for not getting key positions in the Cabinet.

Last week, Umno MP for Machang Datuk Ahmad Jazlan Yaakub withdrew his support from Perikatan, leaving the coalition with a one-seat majority at the Dewan Rakyat.

Hishammuddin is the Sembrong MP and was a former Umno vice-president. – Jan 11, 2021
