Residents of PJ file contempt action against Selangor govt over PJD Link documents

NGO Persatuan Petaling Jaya Lestari has initiated committal proceedings against the Selangor government for failing to comply with a March 2025 High Court ruling ordering the release of key reports on the controversial Petaling Jaya Dispersal (PJD) Link Highway project.

Group secretary Wong Mei Ching said the authorities’ failure to provide the environmental, social, and traffic impact assessments, as well as alignment details, within the 30-day timeframe amounted to contempt of court and undermined the rule of law.

The Kuala Lumpur High Court had ruled in favour of residents seeking access to the documents after a two-year legal battle. Wong said the authorities’ silence showed “bureaucratic indifference,” urging the Madani government to intervene and ensure transparency.

The group’s demands include immediate release of the reports, stronger accountability, and genuine public consultation for future projects.

Residents first filed their judicial review in 2023 after authorities ignored a seven-day ultimatum to disclose the documents.

Although the federal government announced in April 2024 that the project would not proceed, the Selangor government later revealed the developer had submitted a fresh proposal to revive the 25.4km highway.

“The nonchalant attitude of government officials toward a binding court order is unacceptable and erodes public trust,” Wong said, adding that the group is now awaiting a hearing date for the contempt proceedings. —Aug 24, 2025
