Respecting the blue force of Malaysian policing through rain and shine

THERE is no denying that the Royal Malaysian Police force plays an integral role in our community. They go by the slogan of “polis dan masyarakat, berpisah tiada” and rightfully so. Our men in blue truly deserve more respect and honour from the public.

I would like to draw everyone’s attention to an incident, which happened recently near the “Dato Onn” roundabout in KL. It was starting to drizzle with the rain getting heavier by the minute and it was the start of end of the workday rush hour home.

A traffic police lance corporal was on duty near the roundabout directing traffic. Now the young policeman was oblivious to the fact that it was raining. He did not even bother to put on his overcoat.

It looked to me that he only wanted to focus on his traffic control duty, and was even more worried about getting his standard issue sidearm wet over his own body.

This scenario really portrays the saying ‘service before self’. These are the officers and rank and file personnel who swore an oath to the badge, to serve and protect. I do not deny that there are negative perception about the force. One would be foolish to be ignorant to the fact that there are rotten apples in the force.

However, please be reminded that while most people are seated in their comfortable air-conditioned office rooms and travelling in their executive cars. There is also that lance corporal and his mates enduring harsh weather conditions and dangerous drivers all in the name of duty and integrity.

Show the men in blue your support. They and all other frontliners have tirelessly gave it their all in the name of Malaysia.

Happy 214th Police Day to all who have donned the uniform – past, present and future.
