Rightists reject DBKL’s non-anti-dakwah stance, attack Hannah Yeoh for spinning, hidden Christian agenda

FEDERAL Territories Minister Hannah Yeoh’s resolute to win the heart and soul of the majority Muslim populace faces yet another gruelling test as both DAP and even her Christian faith is dragged into the picture to portray mistrust in her leadership.

The dismantling of Muslim convert preacher Firdaus Wong Wai Hung’s-backed Street Dakwah (MRM) booth on the first day of the Lunar New Year (Feb 17) remains an Achilles heel as detractors have accused her as being anti-Islam by having instructed the Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) to carry out such enforcement action.

As FocusM has rightly anticipated, the Bukit Bintang incident has put the Seganbut MP in a collision course with the Multiracial Reverted Muslims’ (MRM) founder and above all else, his large fan base who has been spewing venomous unfounded claims of her hidden Christian agenda having been an evangelist herself.

One can imagine the animosity build-up against the first Chinese and non-Muslim to hold the FT Minister portfolio even as the National DAP deputy secretary-general has re-affirmed Kuala Lumpur City Hall’s (DBKL) commitment to dakwah (Islamic outreach) activities with a caveat that such efforts must comply with the law.

On this note, she has brushed aside as “fitnah” (slander) claims that DBKL harboured any ill intent against the Street Dakwah activity which has been going on for 14 years without any disruption.

“This case was only about the issue with the tents, not with dakwah activities,” Yeoh spoke at the Minister’s Question Time in the Dewan Rakyat yesterday (Feb 26) amid sone interjection from Arau MP Datuk Seri Shahidan Kassim who has since ‘switched gears’ from being an UMNO warlord into a PAS supreme council member.

“DBKL only removed (MRM’s) tents, chairs and foldable tables that were at the location and left unattended at that time after they received a (public) complaint,” she said in response to a supplementary question by Isam Isa (BN-Tampin).

But set against the fact that PAS is capitalising on the issue with an anti-Islam slant coupled with the moral support by UMNO Youth chief Datuk Dr Muhamad Akmal Saleh – a staunch defender of race and religion – the MRM polemic has turned into a hot potato for the Madani government.

This is despite the said items having been returned to MRM following an amicable meeting between Firdaus and Datuk Azman Abidin who is the political secretary to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim recently.

This is when the 43-year-old Jinjang, Kuala Lumpur-raised preacher even lobbied PMX “to consider appointing Azman as the FT Minister.

“Very proactive, not much bureaucracy, prioritises religion, race & rule of law and is effective. Meeting in the morning, implementation in the evening. Whoever does a good job for the sake of religion, race & nation, I shall support regardless of (political) party.”

Despite having been professional to clarify DBKL’s stance in the matter, it seems that the trolling of Yeoh only gets louder among the rightist fraternity with the DAP lawmaker been accused of being a “spin master” by using “the MRM canopy to hide her true anti-Islam attitude”.

Some even went as far as comparing the action against MRM with inaction against illegal land occupancy to erect temples to labelling Yeoh as “beloved ambassador of God to Walanon (Madani backers)” or even call for the need to defend Islam from suppression by the deemed kafir (infidels) quarters.

What is most interesting, however, is that even Yeoh’s personality and dressing are used to portray her as “a chameleon who can change colours according to the situation”. – Feb 27, 2026
