RM13 to be charged on Netflix viewers living outside subscribers’ households

NETFLIX will start charging users who do not live in the account holder’s household RM13 a month to subscribe to the video streaming service.

In a statement today, the company stressed that a Netflix account is “for use by one household”.

“We will start sending out emails to subscribers in Malaysia who are sharing their Netflix account with those not living in the same household,” it wrote.

Netflix stated in a copy of the email included in the statement that users who want to share their Netflix account with folks in other households can transfer their profile to them. They will then be new subscribers who must pay a monthly subscription price.

“You can also share your Netflix account with someone who isn’t staying in your household for RM13/month,” it added.

Netflix announced on Tuesday (May 23) that it will restrict US viewing of its programming to those who reside in the same household in an effort to curtail the widespread sharing of Netflix accounts.

According to a CBS News, those who sign up for Netflix’s regular or premium plans, which range in price from US$15.50 to US$20 per month, will be able to provide their password to someone who lives outside of their family for an additional US$8 per month. — May 24, 2023
