THE upcoming 17th Sabah State Election (PRN-17) will be a significant test for the partnership between PH and BN, according to Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.
He emphasised that this election is crucial for evaluating the cooperation between the two coalitions as they prepare for the general election ahead.
Dr Ahmad Zahid highlighted that the collaboration between PH and BN serves as the cornerstone of the Unity Government and must be sustained to promote political stability in the region.
He was asked to comment on Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s statement that PH will continue cooperation with BN in future polls.
“To maintain the collaboration between PH and BN, we will implement it in the Sabah election first. After that, we will use the same formula to collaborate with other coalition parties,” he said at a press conference that followed a briefing on the Implementation of State Development Projects in Sarawak today.
Ahmad Zahid stated that BN will also not close the door on negotiations with other coalitions to continue working together.
“However, we will not open the door too wide; instead, we will only hold discussions between the leadership of all coalition parties,” he said.
Meanwhile, Sabah PKR information chief, Razeef Rakimin, stated that the party enjoys an autonomous status when it comes to discussions on political cooperation.
He insisted that the leaders should not ignore them in the discussions ahead of the Sabah elections.
“We are the ones making the decisions and understand who is best suited for collaboration,” he emphasised.
This comes after Barisan Nasional (BN) chairman Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi announced last week that the coalition and Pakatan Harapan (PH) had reached an agreement to work together for the upcoming state election. – Nov 3, 2024
