THE Kota Kinabalu High Court’s landmark decision declaring the federal government’s failure to honour Sabah’s 40% revenue entitlement as unconstitutional has been hailed as a historic win for the state’s rights.
PKR vice-president Roland Engan said the ruling restores long-overdue justice for Sabahans and reinforces the rule of law under the MADANI administration.
“I welcome the decision by the Kota Kinabalu High Court which ruled that the federal government acted unlawfully and beyond its constitutional powers when it failed to fulfil Sabah’s rights to 40% of federal revenue for nearly five decades,” Roland said in a statement.
He congratulated the Sabah Law Society (SLS) for its success in bringing the case to court, describing it as a significant victory for Sabah’s future.
“The court’s decision reaffirms the constitutional guarantees enshrined in Articles 112C and 112D of the federal constitution,” he said, adding that the ruling strengthens public confidence in Malaysia’s independent judiciary.
Roland urged both the Sabah and federal governments to work together to implement the judgment fairly. “I sincerely hope the next Sabah government and the federal government will facilitate the implementation of the court’s decision,” he added. —Oct 19, 2025
