Saifuddin confirms his son is under investigation for alleged criminal intimidation

HOME Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail confirmed that his son is under investigation for allegations of criminal intimidation. He emphasised that “no one is above the law,” including his own family, and pledged transparency in the process.

“My son is not above the law, and if there are reports against him, it is the responsibility of the police to investigate thoroughly and fairly,” he told reporters during a working visit to Kuala Lumpur International Airport on Saturday (Jan 11).

“The principle I hold is that none of us are above the law, myself included, and that includes my own child,” he said, as quoted by news portal Malay Mail.

“If the investigation finds there is a basis, let the legal process take its course,” he added, as quoted by the New Straits Times.

The allegations involve a woman claiming the minister’s son threatened her after she asked him to take responsibility for her seven-week pregnancy.

Initial police findings revealed that the minister’s son had married the woman in September 2024. Authorities are verifying the marriage certificate as part of the investigation.

Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain stated that the investigation file has been submitted to the Deputy Public Prosecutor (DPP) for further instructions. The case stems from an incident in December 2024 in Penang and is being investigated under Section 506 of the Penal Code. Police assured the public that no one, including ministers or their families, would be shielded from legal accountability. — Jan 11, 2025
