Saifuddin tells opposition to stop playing the religious cards in Sg Bakap

PKR secretary-general Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail told the opposition parties not to use religion in the Sungai Bakap by-elections.

According to him, the parties should not entice voters to believe that voting for a certain candidate means they are choosing a ‘good Muslim’, adding that elections are not the place to determine the faith of voters.

“Election campaigns mean that both opposing parties share their policies, plans, and agenda to govern and (telling voters) how they will help the people.

“An election is not a place for us to say, ‘If you choose us, you are a Muslim, and if you do not choose us, you are no longer our brother.

“That is not allowed; this is not about determining the voters’ faith but about the matter of managing the country,” he said in a unity government speech last night (June 22).

Moreover, the government has imposed strict rulings, warning candidates and politicians not to raise issues related to 3R (religion, race, royals).

It carried out a series of clampdowns against comments on the 3R issues on social media platforms, drawing backlash from opposition parties.

Meanwhile, the MCA Youth has hit out at PKR for filing police reports against citizens for orchestrating street rallies to demand the resignation of Prime Minister (PM) Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

Referring to the police report filed by Putrajaya PKR chief Fitri Aziz against the “Demo Rakyat Lawan Anwar (Round One)” protest scheduled for June 29 in front of the PM’s official residence in Putrajaya, it claimed that PKR is suppressing citizens’ constitutional right to assembly after having come to power.

MCA is one of the component parties that is also attacking the government for the clampdown on a certain number of issues.  – June 23, 2024
