FORMER Sabah Governor Tun Sakaran Dandai, 91, passed away today at 5.30am in Gleneagles Hospital.
According to a Facebook post by his grandson Ahmad Marzuki Nasir, he said that his grandfather “fought the virus fearlessly until his last breath tapi Allah lebih sayang nenek.”
Sakaran was admitted to hospital after being tested positive for COVID-19 earlier this month.
In his illustrious career, Sakaran became Sabah’s eight chief minister and served from March to December 1994. He was also Semporna MP from 1986 until 1995. The seat is currently held by Sabah Heritage Party president Datuk Seri Shafie Apdal.
Following retirement from active politics, Sakaran was appointed as Sabah’s Governor, serving from Jan 1995 until Dec 2022.
On Aug 28, former Chief Secretary to the Government Tun Ahmad Sarji Abdul Hamid passed away at Hospital Canselor Tuanku Muhriz Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (HCTM) Cheras, due to COVID-19 related complications.
Yesterday, former deputy minister Datuk Seri Lajim Ukin also succumbed to COVID-19, after being placed in a medically induced coma. – Aug 30, 2021
