A RECENT trend on social media has sparked debate about expats in Malaysia, with some users voicing concerns that they often receive higher salaries than locals, despite having similar skill sets to their local counterparts.
Another user brought up the point that pilots in our country are paid significantly less than others elsewhere.
Additionally, an X user alleges that if there is a lack of pilots in the country, ones from different countries would be hired with better pay and flexibility.
In response, some users asked the original poster how Middle Eastern countries handle this issue. The poster explained that, in many Middle Eastern countries, locals are typically paid more than expats.
These discussions bring the reality of being a pilot in Malaysia to the fore. Flight attendants in the Middle East and Singapore may be getting higher pay than pilots in our country.
This may come as a shock to many, but it has been the case for other industries as well.
This stemmed from the allegations that foreign teachers are getting paid more for teaching in international schools than locals.
It is unclear how valid the documents shared on social media are, but they claim that an Expat teacher may make around RM300,000 a year.
An X user says if an English man demanded a job in Malaysia, he should be offered a job with the same pay as locals.
The user adds, however, that the English man would most likely feel offended by such an offer. —Dec 15, 2024
