KEDAH Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor has unequivocally stated that he has no interest in becoming Malaysia’s prime minister. Addressing the media at a press conference following the launch of PAS Women’s Wing Muktamar, Sanusi made it clear that he is not prepared for such a role and has not even envisioned it.
Sanusi’s comments come in response to recent mentions by PAS Youth delegates at the party’s annual muktamar in Temerloh, Pahang. These delegates highlighted him as a potential leader for the country.
“No, I am not ready. Find someone else la… I am a party member, I have no personal ambition in politics.
“I leave everything to the party’s decision. If the party tells me to lead a branch, I will lead a branch,” he said at a press conference after the launching of PAS women’s wing muktamar this morning.
The PAS election director took the opportunity to critique UMNO leaders, contrasting their political practices with his own approach.
He accused UMNO figures of corrupting the political landscape through money politics, citing their tendency to sponsor delegates and display wealth to gain support. Sanusi noted that genuine leadership should be determined by the people’s choice, not through financial influence or deceptive tactics.
“I am not like UMNO leaders, who would volunteer themselves to be leaders and show off their wealth (to win support). (They would) sponsor this and that person, sponsor party delegates and such. All these are ruining politics in this country.
“Let the people decide whether you are fit to be a leader. Don’t buy support and build your influence via false pretences. This will only destroy our country.”
In recent discussions within PAS, other leaders mentioned as potential prime ministerial candidates include Terengganu Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar and PAS Youth chief Afnan Hamimi Taib Azamudden. – Sept 13, 2024
