Sanusi: “Muhyiddin has support of 18 BN MPs, could be sworn in as PM this afternoon”

PAS election director Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor has claimed that at least 18 Barisan Nasional (BN) MPs have pledged their support for Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin as the country’s 10th prime minister.

According to the Kedah Menteri Besar, Muhyiddin could be sworn in at 4pm today after the list of MPs backing the Perikatan Nasional (PN) chairman is sent to Istana Negara.

“Pray that everything will go smoothly as hoped for us (PN) to lead the nation with a caring, clean and stable government,” he was quoted as saying by Utusan Malaysia in a speech at a Kedah PN event last night.

Sanusi further expressed his hopes that UMNO leaders and members would urge party president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi to put a stop to any plans of forming the federal government with Pakatan Harapan (PH).

He claimed that Zahid was trying to drag UMNO into breaching its annual general assembly’s “No Anwar, No DAP” stance, pointing out that Zahid – who is Barisan Nasional (BN) chairman – was trying to save himself from the various criminal charges he is facing in court as promised to him by Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim,

“This is why Zahid wants to make sure all 30 BN MPs support Anwar [as prime minister],” Sanusi was quoted as saying.

“If UMNO members consent to their president’s action to coerce BN MPs into forming the government with PH, then they are the biggest traitors in the nation’s Muslim history.”

According to Sanusi, BN MPs did not need to switch parties to back Muhyiddin as the prime minister as they would retain their seats even if sacked by their party, based on the anti-hopping law.

Yesterday, Zahid denied claims by Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) chairman Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg that BN had agreed to form a government with PN.

In a statement yesterday evening, he said all BN candidates who won at the general election had also signed a pledge and gave him the mandate as the UMNO president to determine any political alliance to establish a government.

He further stressed that MPs who defied the directive of the party would have their membership terminated and their seats vacated, as stipulated by the anti-hopping law. – Nov 21, 2022
