THE Sarawak government is allocating RM30 mil in micro-credit loans for the state’s small and medium-sized entrepreneurs (SMEs) this year, chief minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg said today.
The allocation according to him, will be provided by the International Trade and Industry Ministry (MITI), Industrial Terminal and Entrepreneur Development Sarawak as well as Sarawak Economic Development Corporation (SEDC).
“Beside micro-credit loans, women in the state can also apply for entrepreneur grants up to RM5,000 from the Sarawak Women and Family Department as seed capital for them to start their business,” he said when officiating the Sarawak Women X: Global Innovation Entrepreneurship in conjunction with Women’s Day celebration at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) today.
Abang Johari said the funding for women entrepreneur in Sarawak has been increased to RM2 mil this year from RM1 mil in 2019.
“The Sarawak government via the Centre of Technical Excellence (Centexs) will also cooperate with local online women entrepreneurs to apply the latest technology including Artificial Intelligence (AI), Virtual Reality dan Augmented Reality in their entrepreneurship activities,” he said.
He said the adoption of the latest technology would be implemented via cooperations with foreign companies, the latest one with Eon Reality, a global company with branches in Silicon Valley and Europe. – March 7, 2020, Bernama
