Sarawak floods: Number of victims almost doubles to 5,385

THE number of flood victims in Sarawak nearly doubled as of 8 am today, with 5,385 people from 1,505 families seeking shelter at temporary relief centres. This is compared to 2,981 people from 862 families the previous night.

Bintulu has the highest number of victims, with 1,481 people from 396 families in six centres, followed by Serian with 1,442 people from 446 families in 15 centres.

The number of affected districts has increased from 12 to 14, with centres rising from 36 to 47.

According to The Star, The State Disaster Management Committee previously said 14 temporary relief centres have been opened, covering Kuching, Serian, Bintulu, Miri, Siburan, Tatau, Bau and Simunjan. —Jan 30, 2025
