SC seeks public’s assistance to locate former Asia Media Group head honcho Ricky Wong Shee Kai

THE Securities Commission Malaysia (SC) is seeking information and assistance from the public to locate the whereabouts of the former executive director and CEO of Asia Media Group Bhd (now MMM Group Bhd) Ricky Wong Shee Kai.

Wong, 43, is wanted for charges under the Anti-Money Laundering, Anti-Terrorism Financing and Proceeds of Unlawful Activities Act 2001(AMLATFPUAA) and the Capital Markets and Services Act 2007 (CMSA).

“This search follows various arrest warrants against Wong who remains at-large as well as past attempts to locate his whereabouts,” the SC pointed out in a media statement.

The Kuala Lumpur Magistrate’s Court had on Dec 27, 2019 issued a warrant of arrest against Wong for two charges under section 32(8)(a) AMLATFPUAA for failure to appear before an investigating officer of the SC as required under section 32(2)(a) of the same Act.

If convicted, Wong would be liable to a fine not exceeding RM3 mil or to imprisonment for a term not exceeding five years or to both and with the possibility of a continuing fine.

Subsequently, the Kuala Lumpur Magistrate’s Court issued a second warrant of arrest against Wong on Sept 29, 2021 for one charge under section 369(b)(B) CMSA for furnishing a false statement relating to Asia Media’s revenue to Bursa Malaysia.

The false statement was in relation to the group’s revenue contained in its quarterly report on consolidated results for the 4Q FY2015.

If convicted, Wong would be liable to imprisonment for a term not exceeding 10 years and shall also be liable to a fine not exceeding RM3 mil.

The SC had charged former Asia Media group accountant Ong Kar Kian (Ken Ong) for the same offence on Sept 30, 2021. The trial is currently on-going at the Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court.

Members of the public who have any information on Wong’s whereabouts are urged to notify the SC at 012-610 2593/012-611 4657 or e-mail the financial markets regulator at [email protected]. – June 4, 2024
