WITH preparing students to become future-ready in mind, Sunway Group’s 42 Kuala Lumpur (42KL) is planning to conduct a free 26-day coding bootcamp for all Malaysians aged 18 and above.
The programme called Piscine is aimed at attracting particularly SPM students waiting for their results. It would be conducted free of charge; with no teachers and zero traditional classrooms setting in place.
“42KL is offering an innovative education model designed to develop the skills needed to jumpstart a career as a software engineer, leveraging a project-based learning approach.
“The idea is for the school to provide alternative learning opportunities to help develop people with multi-disciplined talent needed for the future,” Sunway group chief innovation officer and Sunway iLabs director Matt van Leeuwen said, in a statement.
With the digital space evolving rapidly, he stated that it would be hard for people to keep pace with the changes to meet industry needs, which is why the school would also be teaching students critical thinking, problem-solving, leadership and communications skills.
“We hope to become the leading digital economy in Association of Southeast Asian Nations in ASEAN. It is also another for Sunway Group to contribute in nation-building efforts to deliver quality education, in line with the 17 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals,” Leeuwen added.
Elaborating on the project, 42KL head Jeff Sandhu said that students will learn programming languages which will allow them to understand certain concepts, enabling them to tackle any form of language as it continues to flourish.
Upskilling for the future
He added that all this is done using a peer-to-peer learning environment, where students can oversee their own success as well as their teammates.
“This programme is both beneficial to the students as well as the many anchor partners who are all delving into new opportunities available in the technology space.
“The economic downturn has weakened the job market but through 42KL, we can help anyone above 18 who are looking to upskill, contemplating at venturing into a new professional landscape or just testing waters to find a job they enjoy and include the chance to gain sustainable employment,” Sandhu stated.
The programme also includes industry placement, which may lead to job opportunities with 42KL’s anchor partners such as Sunway Group, CIMB, Roland Berger, DHL, Huawei, Carsome, Standard Chartered, Selangor Information Technology and Digital Economy Corporation (Sidec), HSBC, FWD and Tenaga Nasional Bhd.
The Open day is scheduled on April 1 and 2 (Friday and Saturday), from 10am until 1pm (morning session) and 3pm to 6pm (afternoon session) at 42 Kuala Lumpur, Sunway FutureX, Sunway City Kuala Lumpur.
