Seat allocation talks later, answer on joining PH first, Muda urges

MUDA hopes to sort out issues surrounding its application to join Pakatan Harapan (PH) before thinking about seat allocations for the forthcoming state elections.

“The party is still awaiting an answer from PH on its application to join the coalition,” MUDA president Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman told reporters after attending the AUKU: What is the Ending? forum at Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) last night (April 13).

The core issue is MUDA joining PH, which we applied for last year, way before the 15th General Election.”

PAS Youth exco member Nazrul Nasir and political activist Farhan Khairuddin were also present as panellists at the forum.

Syed Saddiq said that he has met with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim on MUDA’s application to join PH.

He also noted that he was given a chance to discuss this matter during a second meeting with the PM, and the PM assured him that it would be discussed by the PH presidential council.

“So we wait for their decision.”

Moreover, the PH presidential council has received MUDA’s proposal to join the alliance last September which was verified by DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke Siew Fook.

However, a decision has yet to be made despite Muda sending four letters to the coalition seeking an answer on the matter.

Meanwhile, Syed Saddiq reiterated his party’s stance to join PH last month, saying the call is due to MUDA looking for positions in the government.

“We stood by our principles and we are loyal. We stood by Anwar prior to the election, during the election, after the election and until today. We are not expecting posts – if we talk about positions. But it’s about being able to be part of the decision-making in policies and deciding the future of our beloved country.” — April 14, 2023
