“Seat in Bersatu Supreme Council available if Khairy wants it,” Muhyiddin says

FORMER UMNO Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin can be offered a seat in the Bersatu Supreme Council should he choose to join Bersatu, said Perikatan Nasional (PN) chairman Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.

According to Muhyiddin who is also the Bersatu president, he has discussed the subject with other Bersatu leaders regarding the two vacancies in the Council.

“The seat is available if Khairy wants it. We are not baiting him as some have suggested. We know he can contribute. I leave it up to him to decide,” he told a press conference after an event in Kuala Lumpur today (May 17).

Muhyiddin said while Khairy has not applied to join Bersatu, he had previously extended an offer of membership to him.

“That offer still stands. I asked him about it again when he attended my Hari Raya open house the other day, but he said he has not made a decision yet.

“We do not want to rush him, but we hope he joins us and helps us strengthen the party,” he said adding that Khairy has not made any demands as a condition for joining Bersatu.

Khairy was among those expelled or suspended from UMNO for violating party discipline during the 15th General Election (GE15) last year.

The former health minister had previously stated that he had refused PN’’s request to defect while still a member of UMNO.

He stated in February that he had received multiple offers to compete in the next Selangor state elections, with one party even adding the position of Menteri Besar in their offer.

Although he refused to specify which party made the offer, a source close to the situation told FMT that it was PN. – May 17, 2023
