NEWS that SEGi College will be opening its new campus at edumetro was a very welcome boost to property owners in the USJ1 development.
Part of HCK Capital Group’s (HCK) education cities series that also includes edusphere (Cyberjaya) and edusentral (Setia Alam), the concept is a mixed integrated development with an education element as its anchor.
Such a concept ensures the steady flow of the young and trendy with the requisite spending power into the development. This demographic helps boost rental demand for all components, especially the residential and retail units.
It is this that inspired a trio of fresh graduates, incidentally from SEGi College, to think about opening businesses in edumetro. Joshua, Thomas and Ben are deeply familiar with SEGi College students, knowing them to be well-heeled.
They decided to explore the possibility of opening, not one but three stores, to cater to their alumni. Joshua, being an IT graduate, was keen on opening a computer store.
Thomas put forth the idea of a stationary store providing useful services such as binding, photocopying and laminating. His experience as a student convinced him that these services were always in demand.
Ben proffered the idea of a café offering healthy food and fresh fruit juices, leveraging his background in culinary arts. The trio were confident that their business ideas would take off seeing how similar businesses near colleges and universities enjoyed roaring trade.
What further stoked their enthusiasm was the very competitive rental rates for certain units within the edumetro development. They noted that those without main road frontage were available at very reasonable rates.
Surmising that they would be servicing the student population within the development, such frontage was unnecessary. Furthermore, to Ben’s advantage, a number of units come equipped with the necessary fixtures required for FnB outlets, allowing for greater cost savings.
A trip to edumetro helped them pinpoint three units which were ideal for their business ventures. They are looking forward to capitalising on the opening of SEGi College at edumetro soon.
