Selangor PH ADUN goes viral for slamming racial, religious GE15 “slander”

A SELANGOR state assemblyman has gone viral for calling a spade a spade and slamming politicians and political parties who continue to spew out racial and religious rhetoric to their advantage.

In a TikTok video viewed by over 300,000 users, Taman Templer assemblyman Mohd Sany Hamzan claimed some parties and candidates who won during Saturday’s (Nov 19) polls did so because of “all-day, all-night slander” against Pakatan Harapan (PH).

These include unfounded allegations that the coalition is communist, wants to amend the Federal Constitution and is against the monarchy, Malays and Islam.

“Selangor, which PH has ruled for the last 15 years, still has a raja (sultan), Malays, mosques, taskirah (short religious talks), usrah (small religious discussions), ada, ada, ada, ada, ada, ada, ada, ada, ada, ada, semua ada (we have it all),” the state backbencher said in a fiery speech during the start of the latest meeting of the state assembly yesterday (Nov 23).

Mohd Sany, who won the federal Hulu Langat seat during the 15th General Election (GE15), said he was utterly upset at these “slanders”, and trained his guns at those on the opposition bench in particular.

While he did not name any party in particular, the opposition in the Selangor state assembly comprises UMNO, PAS, Bersatu and Parti Bangsa Malaysia (PBM).

“How about those who won, won because of slander?” Mohd Sany asked in the house, which sat in pin-drop silence as he spoke. “Islam forbids the practice of slandering!”

The Amanah leader added in the TikTok video (which he himself posted): “When you all are the victims of such slander, you have your go-to defence: everything is either forbidden (haram) or permissible (halal) in Islam.”

“Bringing Malaysia to ruin”

Mohd Sany said such political parties should be branded as illegal in Malaysia as they are bringing the “country to ruin”, he claimed.

“They (these parties) ride (on the bandwagon of race and religion), they sell (their dignity and values) and they are betrayers of the Islamic faith in Malaysia,” he alleged further. “I am truly upset.”

In another viral TikTok video of his, Mohd Sany reiterated his long-held view that his critics were free to give him a public reprimand if he was not doing his job as an elected people’s representative.

“Not that we hit out (at them) for being Chinese, a DAP (member) or because we want to play up race and religion!” he said. “This has become problematic.”

He made reference to recent viral TikTok videos claiming that those voting for PH or BN would “go to hell”, with some taking this one step further by calling for the heads of infidels (kafirs) as well.

“What kind of politics are we trying to bring to this country?” Mohd Sany asked. “We are trying to elect people’s representatives, (like) state assemblypersons and MPs, to form governments. But to the point of wanting to kill and (claiming people) will go to hell (over this process)?

“Is this our country, which celebrates 65 years of independence (this year)? Our politics is supposed to be mature, peaceful, academic and of integrity. It should not be narrow but open!”

He once again slammed political parties who claim to be portraying the image of Islam but see no issue in using “slander, dogmas and lies” to their advantage, in a likely reference to Islamist party PAS, which is often associated with such practices. – Nov 24, 2022
