Selangor state gov’t under fire from netizens on frequent floods

NETIZENS have questioned why Selangor is grappling with repeated flooding under the current state administration, pointing out that such natural disasters have typically hit east coast states like Kelantan and Terengganu hardest during the monsoon season.

An X user asked what the government is doing in order to mitigate the floods in Selangor. He then said that the East Coast floods once a year, while Selangor floods every time it rains heavily.

But other users are saying that the user attacking the state government should “return” to the East Coast instead of criticising the local authorities.

Nevertheless, the Selangor government has announced 11 flood mitigation measures targeting critical areas, including Taman Sri Muda, Meru, and Taman Seri Alam, to combat frequent flooding. Immediate steps include repairing drainage systems, upgrading flood barriers, and expanding retention ponds.

Following that, users are sharing their sympathies with those heavily affected by the floods. They claimed that certain development projects could be the cause of these floods.

Those areas affected apparently do not receive that much rain to cause such devastation. Additionally, it seems that every time it rains, these areas are affected by floods.

Netizens feel that the politicians are not doing their level best in curbing this problem. An X user claimed that the Ayer Kuning elections appear to be the focal point of most politicians rather than this issue.

The user added that “winning” is more important to some, it seems. — April 26, 2025
