Selangor’s Sultan Sharafuddin “deeply disappointed” by Hadi’s insulting remarks towards Malay rulers

SELANGOR ruler Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah has expressed deep disappointment with PAS president Tan Sri Hadi Awang for the latter’s penning of “Islam’s Supremacy Must Be Defended” in his regular Minda Presiden PAS column dated Feb 20 which was addressed to scholars, lawyers, judges, MPs, state assemblymen as well as Malay rulers.

Following that, Sultan Sharafuddin has conveyed his utmost displeasure to the Marang MP via the Selangor State PAS commissioner Datuk Dr Halim Tamuri.

“Among the essence of the letter, His Highness described TS Hadi as not having thoroughly read His Highness’ speech during the National Council for Islamic Religious Affairs (MKI)’s 71st meeting in Putrajaya on Feb 15,” revealed the Selangor Royal Office in a Facebook statement.

“TS Hadi’s cynical statement indirectly linking His Highness’ speech with the attitude of kings who need to have vision on the afterlife and not merely pursuing worldly interests alone is very inappropriate and uncivilised from the point of view of the Malay culture which always respect and maintain good manners when voicing views to Malay rulers.”

“(Moreover), TS Hadi’s statement is not only confusing but can also spark anxiety which can ultimately lead to a split in the unity of Muslims, especially among the Malays in this country.”

If Hadi were more tactful before making any statement by meticulously examining and scrutinising Sultan Sharafuddin’s speech to understand the latter’s message, the matter could have been avoided, according to the Selangor Royal Office.

“Why is he (Hadi) now disputing the position of the Federal Constitution as the main law of the country when Islam has been designated as the Federal religion since the Federal Constitution was drafted in 1957?” asked the Selangor Royal Office.

“As such, His Highness advises TS Hadi to be more careful in the future so as not to repeat the act of insulting the Malay rulers through his statements that could potentially divide Muslims in this country.”

Added the Selangor Royal Office: “His Highness also ordered politicians and political leaders not to manipulate the Islamic religion and tarnishing the sanctity of Islam for the sake of their respective political interests.” – Feb 29, 2024
