Selected to co-chair an advisory committee for MOF, Nurul Izzah quits as PM advisor

FORMER Permatang Pauh MP Nurul Izzah Anwar has been selected to co-chair the secretariat of the advisory committee for the finance ministry, along with Petronas senior manager Khairil Anuar Ramli.

For that matter, she says she has decided to relinquish her post as the Prime Minister’s (PM) advisor for Economy and Finance at the PM’s office.

The secretariat, located in the Petronas Twin Towers, will support the committee’s operations and provide advice to the Finance Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, on various finance-related matters.

The advisory committee, formed by Anwar himself, will offer suggestions on increasing the nation’s revenue base, reducing operating expenditure, restructuring subsidies, and providing better social protection.

The committee will also provide advice on government-linked companies, the national debt, and good governance. It will meet as often as necessary and report directly to Anwar.

Nurul Izzah, who was previously serving as Anwar’s senior advisor on economics and finance, will now take on this new role, leaving behind her previous position, which received much criticism from netizens and politicians accusing Anwar of nepotism.

However, Anwar has dismissed these claims and stated that Nurul Izzah is qualified for the role.

In a statement, Nurul Izzah said that she accepts the responsibility and is looking forward to helping strengthen the country’s and the people’s economy. None of the members of the advisory committee will receive any pay.

“The Finance Minister Advisory Committee chairman Tan Sri Hassan Marican has invited me join the Secretariat of the Advisory Committee to help their efforts in strengthen the economy of the country and the people. I humbly accept this responsibility.

“Through this new role, I no longer serve as a Senior Advisor Economy and Finance to the PM. I really appreciate every the opportunity to contribute to the country in order to create a better future good for Malaysia.

“I take this opportunity to express my full appreciation for each the support and support given, both from the public and the rest wam service team and the Government community.
