CHIEF Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Mohd Zuki Ali has been instructed by the Cabinet to set up an internal committee soon, in order to investigate the recent incident involving a senior government official and an immigration officer stationed at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA).
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said that the matter had already been discussed in the Cabinet meeting as he did not want to witness any more disunity among government servants due to the incident.
When asked to comment on the allegations that Public Service director-general Datuk Seri Mohd Shafiq Abdullah used abusive language against a KLIA immigration officer, Ismail Sabri said: “The Cabinet has agreed to ask the chief secretary to look into the matter and set up an internal committee. We will leave it to the committee to conduct an investigation.”
However, in a statement on Thursday (Aug 4), the Public Service Department had denied the allegations against Mohd Shafiq, explaining that he only reprimanded the immigration officer at the airport for not adhering to the stipulated practices and procedures.
On the membership of the committee, Ismail Sabri said that it is likely to involve outside parties and some have even suggested Attorney-General Tan Sri Idrus Harun to be appointed as chairman, but the chief secretary will be the one to decide on the matter. – Aug 6, 2022
